It's really easy to hear mondegreens in the Seals & Crofts song
"Purple Hand" from their "Down Home" LP,
the last one they recorded before they got a Warner Bros contract,
in the early 1970's.


I heard
"No mortal eye, no voice can hear this great clandestine plan"
which is nonsense, of course ... ought to be
"No mortal eye, no voice, no ear Escaped the destined plan ... "


THen in the second stanza:
I heard
"This is it, it ought to be the touch of hands abroad"
and it ought to have been
"This is it: Get off your knees, look what your hands have wrought"
