BTW and again, off topic, I studied The vision of Piers Plowman at Uni when I studied Middle English and Old English.

I remember the names John Brunner and J.G. Ballard but I can't remember what I have read by them.

Another author I like is Nevil Shute and he wrote at least two futuristic novels. On the Beach was about a nuclear future, and the other one - I'll have to look up the title - started as a very ordinary, everyday situation but later revealed itself as Sci-Fi.
