I'm currently reading "The Long Earth" series by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter. I know the former well as he is one of my favourite authors. I didn't know Baxter at all but the sleeve notes say he is one of the best current sci-fi writers in the UK. I must try some of his other works.

I can recommend the horror/fantasy/sci-fi work of English author, Simon Bestwick. He also sings an excellent rendition of Twa Corbies :-)
