Ireland seems to manage perfectly well without a monarch, but with the kind of non-political, ceremonial Presidential arrangement recommended by Raggytash and myself. And I doubt it costs Ireland even a tiny fraction of the cost of the royal family to the UK, or the POTUS to the US for that matter.
