No. It’s a widely-held fallacy that music needs to be very loud to sound its best. At high volumes, ‘deafening’ as you put it, subtleties and nuances are lost in the overall ‘mush’ that over-loaded ear-drums perceive. Having played in bands (of almost every kind, jazz, brass, and classical being the only kinds I haven’t played) for the past 60 years, and still doing it, I prefer to hear well-balanced, technically excellent audio at sensible volumes.

Also, I live in a semi, I’m a considerate human being, and I don’t choose to inflict my tastes in music on my very good neighbours.
