I've found the reference: Butterfly Picnic by Joan Aitken: a crime novel set on a fictional Greek island called Dendros. As I mentioned in '04 when I adopted this name, there IS an island called Thassos (forest) which I have visited and Postcarded under its own name. Dendros (tree) is not it, and ironically, has few trees.
