Thank you, Henry Peacock, for the heads-up about Martin Graebe's new book. I first came across the song when I found a copy of Alfred William's book in a Swindon bookshop, visiting my brother on his first job as a vet nearly fifty years ago (he's still working, in Shetland for now). I believe Stanton Harcourt at the time was a very large Co-op dairy farm.
I have been singing the song ever since, at least when I remember it's September!
