There are herons that hang out on the rivers in southern Scotland. They don't seem to travel far - there's one I often see under a bridge in Hawick and another one on the Water of Leith near Dean Village in the middle of Edinburgh. If you were hoping to have one guide you home, you'd better be nearly there already.
