Thread Name: Lyr Add: Peri-Periwinkle (Robert Burns?)
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Peri-Periwinkle (Robert Burns?)
Here's an old traditional song from north of the border which is obviously based upon a true story. It has a chorus which has nothing whatever to do with the verses but who cares? And it should, I suppose, be sung by the Glasgow Orpheus Choir. I will do my best.
All the little angels are sent up, are sent up All the little angels are sent up on high Which end up? arse sent up, Which end up? arse sent up All the little angels are sent up on high
Oh a lassie was roaming By the banks of Loch Lomond She tripped on a pebble and made herself lame. But a preacher was passing And he took a passion He lifted her up and carried her home [pronounced "hame"]
All the little angels are sent up, are sent up All the little angels are sent up on high Which end up? arse sent up, Which end up? arse sent up All the little angels are sent up on high
Now I'm happy stating That the poor little maiden Will never, not ever be troubled again For he took her and fed her And into bed led her And now that wee lassie's the whore of Dumblane
All the little angels are sent up, are sent up All the little angels are sent up on high Which end up? arse sent up, Which end up? arse sent up All the little angels are sent up on high
Transcribed from the 1963 LP Songs for Gay Dogs by Patty Roberts
