My grandmother sang a version of this but I never knew the origins and the “hungry” always confused me. She sang it as a lullaby. She grew up in Omaha but lived on the river road in Southern Louisiana so I’m not sure where she picked it up.

I saw the ship go round the bend.

She would keep repeating it til I drifted off.
