"George Christy's Essence of Old Kentucky" (N. Y., 1862), a collection of minstrel songs and comedy routines, includes most of the first stanza as part of a "medley of medleys."

This is a rare U.S. appearance of the song before it became "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon."
