In 1910, Alice Adele Todd completed a thesis entitled "Nature in the old English and Scottish Ballads" at Boston University. Most of the content is an index to ballads mentioning specific topics such as trees or flowers, but there is an introductory section that discusses how much or little reference to nature can be found.
