Thread Name: Lyr Req: (She Was Just) A Sailor's Sweetheart
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (She Was Just) A Sailor's Sweetheart
I have a green vinyl 45 rpm 'I Am Just a Sailor's Sweetheart that my parents had from earlier than the '50's, when I came on the scene.
Sung in first person, a variation (I'm writing from memory so the order of the verses may be mixed up):

I Am Just a Sailor's Sweetheart

I am just a sailor’s sweetheart and I love my sailor lad
Though he left me broke in Norfolk, he was all I ever had.
But I still believe in sailors and I’m true to the red, white and blue
And although I’m barred from the Navy yard, oh! I love my sailor lad, positively!

I am just a sailor’s sweetheart, I’m the saltiest gal you’ll meet
And I’d go from Maine to ‘Frisco, when I’m following the fleet.
I love my first class bosun, though he’s rough and he’s tough with me.
Although I got sore when he broke my jaw, Oh! I love my sailor lad. Absolutely!

I am just a sailor’s sweetheart and I love my sailor lad
But one day at Coney Island, boy he sure did get me mad!
When he put his bathing suit on, big as life, tattooed there on this chest
Was the name Marie, my name’s Rosalie!
Did he have to take it off? Positively!

There may be a closing stanza but I'm not sure right now. The vinyl is damaged and I haven't been able to play it for a while.
