I thought it better to start a new thread re this although it is partly connected to my query re "Recipe For Life"(Men from Drumnadrochit).

The melody of the above song is very familiar and has also been used for other songs notably "The Whiby Tailor"

Basically, I'm wondering is whether or not the “tune” has a life of its own? Or an original melody from which the “song” versions are derived. It is very catchy and has been used for, I'd imagine, several songs.
