Some of us are going to kayak out into San Carlos Bay from Punta Rassa, (where Ponce de Leon first came ashore in 1513 and subsequently started the Florida cattle industry, it's mostly condos and a tennis center now) so we can view the fireworks from both Ft. Myers Beach in the east and the Sanibel Causeway in the west. I've been doing it on and off for 30 years and when the weather cooperates it's spectacular. The first time I went I didn't get out far enough initially and had to paddle like hell to escape the bombardment from the folks on the shore.
