I'm more on the stereo/receiver side of things, but I often run into issues like this with newer turntables which have built-in amplifies. A number of my friends have bought these and tried to plug them into the turntable jack of an older receiver (which itself is amplified). Perhaps both the mic and amp are amplified? Is there a non-amplified jack on the amp to plug it into?
