Herself's cousin was called into a hospital as a translator. The chap in the bed was coloured and was wearing black clothes ("the only thing you could see in the dark was his teeth"); he'd been cycling along a Dutch road on the wrong side, at night, without lights. He kept saying (in English): "But I put out my hand to turn right ...."
