"Bel" ami. Modern French usually uses "beau" as the masculine of "belle" but where this causes a vowel pileup it can be replaced by "bel."

And of course this doesn't imply that the speaker's hitting on the butler... beau/bel/belle has a lot of idiomatic uses in French. Pretty much like in English (see what I just did? ^__^)
