Subject: RE: Any November Songs?
13 November 1887 Bloody Sunday. A protest was held at Trafalgar Square in London. It became known as Bloody Sunday or the Trafalgar Square Massacre because the police violently fought with the demonstrators. On the following Sunday, 20 November, there was another demonstration with more casualties. Amongst those hurt was a young clerk named Alfred Linnell who died of his injuries. William Morris wrote a poem called A Death Song which was printed in a pamphlet, designed by Walter Crane, with a musical setting by Malcolm Lawson. It was sold for the benefit of Alfred Linnell’s children.
