In elementary school,we learned the lyrics as:

I'm a little Dutch boy from across the sea,
I've come to see if you'll marry me,
If you'll marry, marry marry marry,
If you'll marry me.

The boys got down on one knee and sang to the girls who would then answer as the little Dutch girl.
