As I watched the funeral it was all flowing past, but now that photos of the event have surfaced, the fine points are in view. Like Trump and the Mrs. not putting hands over hearts (perhaps because they're both empty vessels in that category) when the coffin passed entering and exiting.

People didn't shake hands with Trump. Michelle Obama didn't attend (she also won't attend the inauguration) because she so despises the man. That had to be a difficult choice, with Carter being such a champion of things she supports.

My thought, as I listened to the speakers enumerate all of the programs that Carter introduced that Trump was probably making a list of those programs in order to try to shut them down. Such completely different people, both with their own flaws, but Trump with such loathing for many people and such guile to get his way that the funeral served to highlight just how truly awful he is.

Carter did get out at the right time. He left his mark and helped people. Let's hope his foresight was strong enough to prevent that work from being unraveled. And keep those flags at half-staff for the full 30 days.
