Given the serfdom of the colliers, one might expect them (at least those without family responsibilities) to join the victorious Jacobites in a bid for freedom- did this happen?

No - the Highlanders mutilated the wounded.   Most people in Edinburgh were sickened by what they saw and any public sympathy for the Jacobites evaporated (except for aristocratic song writing ladies who didn't see the consequences anyway).
