Our local council (swings between Tory and Liberal control) has sold off most of our local allotments. In fairness to the council, they were mostly un-let, un-tended, and overgrown, neglected wildernesses. Now, at least they are being used, although not for growing food.

Allotment-keeping, over the past thirty years or so, seems very much to have fallen from favour in this area.
