He went on to donate the residuals to the families of the "wives and the sons and the daughters" of the men who died. All 29 aboard died that night. When the lyrics say, "the lake never gives up her dead", it is the literal truth. Lake Superior is so deep and the water so cold flesh doesn't rot and so the bodies stay where they are, at the bottom. The bell that is rung - now 30 times - each year, is from the Fitzgerald with a replacement bell placed on the bow. Thank you Home Free for including this tribute to the 29 brave men and families. It is musically and visually your best work so far. IMHO.""
