Thread Name: Love songs of the Revolution
Subject: Love songs of the Revolution
A friend suggested I post a query on this forum. I'm looking for a song from the time of the Revolution. I've finished the 1st draft of a play about my g-g-g-grandfather who was in the revolution as a soldier at Bunker Hill at age 17. The love story in the play is the courting of my g-g-g-grandma who he married in 1780 and then they moved to Maine. Each time, during the play, when he leaves she sings a song. The first time its, "Johnny has Gone For a Soldier" the second time, after they declare for each other, it's "Sweet is the Budding Spring of Love". Now I need a song for 1779 when he signed as a Mass State Marine and sailed on the ship Boston. He came back, they married, he marched off one more short time and then they moved to Maine. Is there a "Why do you go, when I love you so" song of the 1770's that would fit? If not, I'll write one but would prefer to use a period piece.
