Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Freddy Mercury/Queen---Folk Song????
In one of the concerts, they had the speakers on either side of the main stage area, and they were set up in such a way that Freddy could run up and down the stack, all the way to the top of the top speaker, about 20 feet above the stage (well it seemed that way; maybe it was more like 12 feet). All night long he was all over the stage, up and down the speaker stacks. He wore a pair of tights that had built-in suspenders (braces) and no shirt, and he was just wringing with sweat. All that running, and he still sang as cleanly as if he were in the studio. A definite dynamo.

The other 3 members of the band just basically stood in one spot (or sat, in Roger's case), and watched him whip about the stage like a madman. The only time he sat still was to play the piano, and to sing '39.

I'll never forget "Love of My Life." He started singing it, and the whole audience was singing along with him. At one point he just stopped singing, and held the microphone over the audience. Just us singing. It sounded amazingly good! It was a magic moment, which I still treasure.

Another horrible loss to the AIDS scourge.

May his memory be eternal.
