I used to run a folk club with a friend in Leyton in the 60s. One night I met Don in Oxford street and offered him a gig at the club. The week before the booking the Eamonn Andrews discovery happened, Don honoured the booking at the agreed measly sum and the club sold out we even had to borrow extra chairs from the local scouts. My friend bought his first used car (a Ford Anglia)on the proceeds.
I sadly didn't see Don again for many years until bumping into him in Totnes in Devon. By this time he was really down in the depths. A great pity and a sad loss to the world of music and poetry.
