Thread Name: Looking for new songs to sing
Subject: Lyr Add: STRAWBERRY FAIR^^
I like to start off with Strawberry Faire....a good limberup song...

As I was gong to Strawberry Faire, singing,
singing buttercups and daisies...
I met a lady making her way, foldideee.....
Her eyes were blue, and gold was her hair,
as she went on to Strawberry Faire..............
Reevo, reevo, folde diddle dy do,
reevo, reevo fol de diddle dee.

Kind sir, said she, my roses are red, singing, singing, buttercups and daisies....
Cherry red, the pretty maid said, fol di dee.........
My cherries are fair and plenty to spare, and I go down to Strawberry Faire....
Reevo, reevo, foldididdle dy do,
reevo, reevo fol de diddle dee.

Says I your roses will soon fade away, singing...............
Scarce have cherries longer to stay, foldideee....
So fare thee well, I'll none of your wares,
and I'll not go to Strawberry Faire....Reevo........

A very larky, rollicky song, full of inuendo....

One of my favorite sad songs, and I've been singing it for 30 odd (very odd...lol) years with great pleasure is Banks of Greenwillow....

Oh, it's of a sea captain, lived by the seaside -o,
And he courted a lady who proved by child.

Now it's fetch me some of your father's clothes and some of your mother's money,
and we will go on board of ship with mine own dearest honey.

Well, they hadn’t been on board of ship, not 6 wks nor better,
when she started wanting women, and could not get any.

"Well, it hold your tongue oh you silly girl, and it's hold your tongue oh my honey,
for we cannot get women, not for love nor for money."

Then he tied a napkin round her head, and he tied it round so gently,
then he throwed her right over, both her and her baby.

Now, it's seeing how that she doth swim and seeing how she doth swagger,
she will never leave off swimming till she comes to some harbor.

And she shall have a coffin and the nails will shine yellow,
and my love, she shall be buried on the banks of Greenwillow.

(I was sure this was in the database but couldn't find it just now...maybe had the wrng title...)
