I agree that "Lark Rise to Candleford" is a great book. It's surprising that no one mentioned it in either Best book you ever read. or Best Book Pt 2. Two other good books in the same category are "Crowdie and Cream," by Finlay J. Macdonald, and "Cider with Rosie," by Laurie Lee. They are also memoirs of childhood in the western isles of Scotland, and in rural England, respectively.
