Good for you, treaties and all of you! When I reached the one week mark without smoking I knew I was on to something- in all my previous 'tries' I had never made it that long. The difference, I think, was that the last time I wasn't 'trying', I was doing it.

It does get easier. And even though the impulse to smoke continues for years- hey, what do you expect from an addiction! As my brother said, he continued to have flashbacks for years, with his hand out of long habit going to his cigarette pocket but, he said that he could easily live with that- the next instant he had forgotten all about it. I found the same thing to be true.

It gave me great comfort to tell myself for months that if they ever came out with a totally harmless cigarette, or if I developed a terminal illness, I would go right back to smoking. Of course, it wasn't long before I realized that I didn't want to go back to stinking!

Congratulations!
