Great thread Murray! I misspent a summer in Antigua in the very early 1970s and started to learn to speak the Queen's English there. Later I learned that proper usage in the U.S. until shortly before the turn of the century (Meaning 1901) was British usage. At least as far as spelling was concerned. SOme of my favourite British Terms; Loo for Lavatory. Lorry for truck Lift for elevator.
