I remember when they used to have "God Save the Queen" at the end of every cinema show in England. The whole audience would leap to their feet, and surge towards the exits. It wasn't any kind of political statement either, just people trying to beat the rush to the buses and the chippie.
By the time the tune was over, if there was anyone still in the theatre, it would probably be the occasional anti-monarchist sitting down on principle.
Somehow Americans seem to take this kind of thing much more seriously.
