It's a bit like the theory that lobster tastes better if the poor creatures are gradually brought to the boil, rather than being plunged into boiling water.

Apparently they gradually become groggy as the heat rises, until they 'fall asleep' and then die, as the water reaches boiling point.

My theory is they simply suffocate, as all the oxygen is heated out of the water...
