My actual dream mandolin (that I might actually get one day) is one of those Gibson A-styles from the teens. Only ever played one, but I was astonished. 80-year old mandolins, these ones anyway, are way more useful as playing instruments than same-age guitars.

I had a decent F-5 copy for many years (a Univox, most uninspiring name ever to appear on a peghead), but I sold it to Alex Sinclair of Tamarack. So at least I hear it on the radio now and then.

My current mandolin for the last ten years is a famous name instrument, though:
