Fib - thanks for that. It does sound very similar to the Moslem mode of conversation that I've found in translations and books, and it certainly doesn't sound sacriligeous to me, although I imagine it might to other people. I do recall that in Gautamala, I heard 'Dios!' and 'Santa Maria!' a lot, but I can't vouch for it being worked in to the conversation in the same way, my Spanish wasn't that good and I didn't talk to enough natives. For the record, it's a VERY Catholic country.
