One obvious benefit of using the log-in monikers is that you know when they post something, it's the same person. ANYBODY can be "GUEST,#1" or "GUEST,in room 325 of the Motel 6" and thus it needn't be the same person every time. This makes it rather difficult to have a conversation, if you can't be sure you're still speaking to the same person.
