I would advise anybody who has the slightest urge to sing/play music with family to do so. My late father and I only ever sang together once (Goodnight Irene). Recently my mother gave me a box of my father's old cassettes. On one of them he'd recorded himself singing at their Golden wedding party. It was "their tune" "Let the rest of the world go by". It broke my heart that I'd never taken the trouble to get him to join in with me when I was much younger. If you have the chance do it, no matter what the content or occasion.
