Years ago, my uncle had made tape recordings of songs he heard in pubs as he travelled around Ireland. However, he didn't know the titles. His recordings included only the first verse and chorus of Slaney Valley, and, as you might imagine, the quality of the recording was not that good.

Although I couldn't quite make out the lyrics, I fell in love with the tune. Finally, after being certain of the word "asthore", I did a wild card search and was rewarded with this thread, with the title and the lyrics to the song.

This was a lovely way to start my day.
