Thread Name: Non-Music: Powhatan Indian lecture 3
Subject: Non-Music: Powhatan Indian lecture 3
My apologies to all for the invisible posts. I'm trying to post a blue clicky and I may be doing someting wrong. I'll try this one without it.
I want to thank the mudcat for the enthusiastic response I got for my request for help on this topic several months ago. For your information, the lecture has been scheduled for Saturday, June 9th at 2:00 PM eastern time. If you are in the Richmond, Virginia area on that weekend, consider yourself invited. I believe there is a small fee, and reservations are advised, but not required. You can get directions and contact information from our website at henricus.org. If you want to see the original thread, it is titled Help: non-music history posted on January 14th '01. That's the blue clicky that I think is causing me headaches.
I incorporated much of the advice into my format and topic selection. I will break the 30 minute talk into 3 mini-lectures, and talk about three Native people who had an impact on the settlement at Henricus. They are; Pocahontas, who stayed at Henricus for several months after her capture by the English, Opossunoquonuske, the weroansqua, or female chief of a neighboring Appomattucks town, and Oppecancanough, who orchestrated teh military action that caused Henricus(and all the other settlements in Virginia except Jamestown)to be abandoned in 1622.
Thanks again for all the help and your patience with my invisible messages.
