Spud: that is an interesting story, and one that I'm sure could have been written by many young men of your age. My only regret (at the time) was I was only 11 years old and I COULDN'T join the Marines. I have learned better. The one thing I do remember reading about in the newspapers and listening to radio in those days, was there was a great deal of criticism about our selling junk metal to Japan, and how the Japanese envoys were in peace negotiations that later proved to be only a ploy. Of course we got a considerable amount of that junk metal back during the Pearl Harbor attack.
