Subject: **IAN** sam & bill heading to CATSPAW'S!
Just figured it was young Ian's turn to bask in some of the Mudcat Folk superstardom and name recognition embarrassment. Sam's had his turn, and of course Bill's just an old fart with a banjo!

By the way, let me tell you a little bit about this kid (he's 19)

He's got one of the best ears I've heard in years. In the biz, they say as a compliment "he/she's got "Big Ears" (means a player can hear chord changes before they happen) well Ian Stephenson has HUGE EARS.

In less than 10 minutes he was playing credibly on the: Appalachian Dulcimer, Dobro, and open tuned (1,5,1,5.) fiddle.

He can "hear and play" blues phrasing on the guitar even though he usually plays in other genres.

He's sharp as a tack, funny, observant, and should be thoroughly embarrassed by now...but I gotta add, a damn nice guy.

What a treat to hear Sam play, and finally meet him in person. Great musician, a gentleman, and like Bill, someone I hope to call "friend" for many years to come.

They headed off about two hours ago to see Niagara Falls, and of course I've advised them to visit the "Ripley's Believe It or Not" Museum, where they can witness the "Catspaw Exhibit". It contains the first bar of soap Paw's Mom used, to wash out her son's mouth.

Well Pat, my friend, I've sent them off to you in only marginally worse shape than when they arrived here. ENJOY THEM! Damn, I've made some nice friends through Mudcat. Thanks max.

P.S. There's a present for you. The choice was either a totally realistic looking rubber dog turd, or what they actually ARE bringing you.

Cheers

Rick
