My whole lack of feeling regarding McV, is puzzling.

I know, as CET has mentioned, that too many innocent people end up on death row. I have a woman friend who was on death row in Maryland after being wrongly accused of murder. Through a campaign, we finally got the then governor to commute it to life. Last I knew she was trying to get transferred closer to her tribe in Florida. Sadly, she quit writing a few years ago, so I have no idea what happened to her. I have saved all of her letters as they were very beautifully written and contained a lot of AmerIndian spirituality which meant a lot to me. Wherever she is, I give thanks that she is well and perhaps finally free.
