Whistle: You remind me a bit of the folks who accept only a literal translation of the Bible. And I do not mean that remark to be an unkindly one. It just seems to me that you are splitting hairs a bit.I think the framers were thinking of the muskets you mentioned when they wrote the Constitution. I doubt any of them considered that there would ever be any nuclear weapons, hence no need to allow for them one way or the other.
When I think of the type modern day weapons covered by the Second Amendment I think of a hunting rifle, shotgun or pistol. BARS, Tommy Guns and the like don't come to mind.
