Ages, ago, when I was married to my first wife, we were both in the church choir. As luck would have it, I was a big fish in a little pond (fairly able tenor in a VERY small section, whereas she was a soprano in a large section which also boasted one professional lyric soprano. Upshot was, I got to do lots of solo work, she rarely did. Then we purchased a house some distance away and joined the small mission parish in our new location. The church had no choir at all so we immediately started forming one. After we'd been there some months, the two of us did a duet for the offertory one Sunday. After the service, one of the parishioners came up to me and said, 'Ivan, I didn't know YOU could sing too!' The ex was ecstatic (and no, that's not why she's an ex).
