Thread Name: Lyr Add: Standing on the Promises
Subject: Lyr Add: STANDING ON THE PROMISES (Carter, 1886)
This is one of the best hymns, or "gospel songs," if you like, I have ever heard! How come it isn't on DT?

STANDING ON THE PROMISES

Russell Kelso Carter, 1886

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises, standing on the promises,
Standing on the promises of God, my Savior.
Standing on the promises, standing on the promises,
I'm Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail.
By the living word of God I shall prevail
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect present cleansing in the blood for me,
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises of God the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by Love's strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit's word,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises, I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Sprit's call
Trusting in my Savior as my all and all,
Standing on the promises of God.

The song, with a MIDI, is on CyberHymnal.
Recorded by Tennessee Mountaineers, for Victor label on August 5, 1927,
Available on "The Bristol Sessions" (CMF Records, whoever they are.
Recorded in 1981 by Angel Band, which includes at least one Mudcat, under the auspices of Ms. Jean Redpath, among others.
