I sort of liked Popeye, but I think my father liked him a lot more. One of the scariest moments I had during my life as a little kid was when I saw my dad for the first time without his teeth, and he launched into an impression of Popeye. I never blamed Popeye for that, though. It was entirely my father's fault.
