Well, this discussion has reminded me of why I like the Popeye movie so much...precisely because it is so absolutely faithful to the spirit of the original comic (or cartoon)...and I LOVE comics!

The movies that really frustrapate me are the ones which are utterly unfaithful to the original in an attempt to pander to the presumed present styles and tastes of North American 13-year-olds...like Disney's Jungle Book or Winnie-the-Pooh efforts, for example.

I agree the Wimpy character wasn't handled as well as he could have been, though...
