You say: People's curiousity about the identity of these guest(s) seems to be overtaking their common sense. I don't think it's curiosity as to identity, but the motivation behind anonymity which is causing some members to get annoyed. Since it is easy enough to choose any sort of name to sign in with, or even a random string of numbers as someone else suggested, a 'guest' who refuses to accept the informal rules of this place, for no good reason, is going to put peoples' backs up. (This is because there are several bad reasons for remaining anonymous.)

It is the same with any sort of club or social activity. Anyone who enters a new social situation, is wise to observe and take notice of how others behave and how things are done, rather that wading in and telling members what they don't like about the place and how they should do things differently...
