Alice, thinking about you eating alone made me realize how many people must have done that today, despite the storybook image of big, jolly family gatherings. Your son is lucky to have a mother like you.

My husband and I went down to the Soup Cellar with our instruments and sang carols for a HUGE CROWD for about an hour. Not only were there dozens of guests, there were dozens of volunteers, too many in fact. Many who just wanted someplace warm and friendly to go for Christmas. And we all found that place.
