I heard about PS back in about 1969 or 1970. The story was that he was the guy who taught Dylan how to "sing country" before the Nashville Skyline album. Who knows if there's any truth to that.

I recently pulled out my vinyl copy of Woodsmoke and Oranges & Jackknife Gypsy and was happy to find that they still stand up after all these years. "My Town" is, indeed, a great piece of writing, but my favorite is "Bride, 1945". It is a truly awesome, jaundiced slice of Americana.

Bonnie Raitt covered another of the songs on Woodsmoke & Oranges, but I can't recall the title here at work; The verse goes:
If you don't love her, you better let her go
You'll never fool her, you're bound to let it show
Love's so hard to make when you have to fake everything in return
You just preserve her when you serve her a little tenderness

One question: I was told that he was from Missouri, around Jefferson City. Can anyone confirm the details?
